Maldrid was a bit curious as to what the red glow in the middle of the Adabatian jungle might be. Perhaps he'd find more archaeological sites to study for his own personal knowledge. It would be nice for once to study alone and not have anything else disturb him while he did this. This place would also offer a bit of solitude from the sprawling life of the city. He hoped that this jungle would offer all that he wanted and more. It would be the perfect resting place for him. Though as a precaution he went armed with his daggers. He preferred to have a weapon and not need it than to need a weapon and not have it. They gave Maldrid a sense of security. He hoped though that he would not need them. Maldrid continued to walk in the jungle in the direction of the reported red light. |

The rarely-traveled path that he had chosen was not the same that general Noxedwin had taken days beforehand. Roots overpowered the trail for meters at a stretch, the unfamiliar terrain threatening to engulf him. However, markers had been placed around, the remnants of burnt-out torches still stuck in the ground or hanging from branches. No ruins, not even a sign of animal life, had crossed the archaeologist's path, but, as the map he had bought for a high price from a local elder had read, the trail ran straight to the middle of the island, to where the red glow had once enveloped it. Ahead, the darkening canopy had been broken, sliced harshly by something. Furthermore, a slightly curved indentation ran along the ground as far as Maldrid could see, disappearing behind the trees in the distance. A strange, white metal, covered in dirt, seemed to fill the gap a few inches down. Beyond it, a few hundred meters, a small, stone structure sat beneath a beam of light, all but its base untouched by the plant life. It had a pyramidal base, steps on parts of each side, and the pedestal at its center seemed to have once held something, now empty. |

Maldrid was almost blinded by the light due to the absence of a canopy. He then looked around at what was before him. It seems that the map had been worth the trouble to buy it. The clearing had come as a surprise, it would take quite a bit of energy to accomplish such a feat. The thing that had caused it might still be around here somewhere, he would have to do a bit of excavating to see if he could find it, perhaps he'd start at the strange pedestal that was in the center of the clearing. He started to walk towards the pedestal to see if it would hold any clue to how recent events had been unfolding. |

The ruins told little of the society of origin in its ambiguity. It was an oddity. While it did resemble the ruins of the past societies of Adabat, the ruins of which still floated off the coast, it had many of the decorations of Echidna ruins of the far west, with raised mosaics of gods and demons, but it also had the markings of some of the archaic temples of Hran. Bits of green fur had fallen on the shrine floor near the pedestal, but were only slightly contrasted with the fallen vines and leaves around them. |

Maldrid was a little surprised at the similarity between the runes on the pedestal to the ones the Echidnas had built. He studied the runes a bit trying to see if he could make sense of anything that was either drawn or written. The fur was of no concern to him at this point as he still was wondering about this area. Perhaps the runes would give him the answers that he'd need. Maldrid was adept at deciphering the ancient runes in the Mystic Ruins that the Echidnas had left behind but it was a tedious process that was time consuming for him. In the end Maldrid thought it would be worth his while. |

Out of the corner of his eye, something moved. It didn't make a sound, but something had definitely moved. It then moved again. It seemed to be crawling. Several meters behind him, on another trail that lead to the shine, a large creature--it looked to be over three meters tall--crawled toward the shrine. Its skin was a white metal, moving with the grace and folds of skin, accented with lines of blue in odd symbols and designs. Its leg had been torn open, its Tyrannosaur foot dragged behind it, its tail moving quietly in the dirt. It seemed reptilian, said nothing. |

Maldrid turned to look at the reptilian creature that was slowly making its way towards the shrine. He didn't know if it was hostile or not so he went away from the shrine to see what this creature would be doing next. The reptile might give him a clue as to what this place was for. He stood back at a distance to observe what would unfold in front of him. |

The thing had obviously been injured. As it moved parts of its metallic skin seemed to be decaying, rusting quickly in the open air. Much more quickly than should have been possible. It touched the pedestal in the center of the shrine with a claw before its torso split in two. It was mostly hollow, save for a large pile of corroded iron, red dust in an increasingly red body. Its eyes went dark, its head the only remnant untouched by the super-fast oxidization. It was covered in the odd blue lines, no longer glowing as they had. Its mouth, slightly agape, was filled with stubby, round teeth, its jaws powerful enough to clamp on and rip the hardest steel. How the mighty fall. |

Confusing was the term that came to mind as Maldrid watched the metals along the reptile's body disintegrate before his eyes. What kind of creature that this one was was still beyond him. After the metals had all seemingly dissolved from its body he was unsure of whether or not this one was still alive. Better safe than sorry he waited for any sign of movement. If it didn't move at all within the next few minutes he'd go in to investigate. |

An eerie calm settled over the jungle as Maldrid waited. The ruins seemed to have lost some of their sacred nature, the once-selective canopy opening up more streams of light, flooding the forest floor with rays of light. The metal skull's innards decays, and a breeze from above the jungle spread its remains around, iron oxide flowing into cracks and across the shrine's surface. Regardless, the skull and ruins were definitely a find, worthy of a paper and a nice grant from a museum, perhaps, if Maldrid chose to go the way of the treasure hunter. |
