Aeolus rushed over the barren crater, searching for anything left. While most of the people had escaped including Princess Elise, much of Soleanna's great culture was lost. With no Soleanna left apart from barren land Elise had to become just a person from a rich family. Even though he was rewarded for his many years being Elise's Elite Guard he barely could accept some of the precious remains of his culture. He promised he would do anything to help regain and replenish his once great city. So here he is, looking for more of his culture and trying to collect the fragments of Soleanna. |

The barren wasteland showed no life, not even the lowly tumbleweed contrasting the dark, burnt earth. Large amounts of dust, blown by the wind throughout the crater, obscured the horizon where the once beautiful dusks and dawns of Soleanna crested and dipped. The surface, though overall the concave parabola of a standard crater, was split by cracks and jagged ravines, some from preexisting channels, though others formed by the mighty popping of impurities from the mighty, unmatched heat of the planet-splitting laser that Robotnik had once unleashed. However, in the distance and partially blurred by the blowing sands, a group of Mobians--avians, it appeared, with beaks and feathers--were crowded around one such split in the ground. They seemed to be looking down in the abyss. There were at least a dozen, ranging from green to gray in color. Mostly hawks, there appeared to be on own, a burly-looking fellow whose face was too plump for his body. Speckled with sand, his feathers were a beautiful shade of brown, his torso white spotted with black. His face was a gigantic moon, the palest of feathers, deep, black eyes piercing the distance. Strapped over his chest was a banner of ambassadorship, though the logo woven into the thick fibers was unfamiliar. |

Aeolus looked and saw the avians, his face a mixture of curiosity and distrust. While avians were not uncommon in Soleanna before the laser hit, for a group that large to be here in the Crater of his once beautiful town was very suspicious. 'What are they doing here?' Aeolus thought as he rushed towards the group, a white blur with the metallic shine of his Gauntlet Blades and Extreme Gear (spherical mode) glowing in the sunlight. While he could of approached silently, due to his training and regular travels across the Dusty Desert, he chose to approach loudly with the thumping of feet going near Mach 1 speed gave his position to the birds far before he arrived. "Hey, what are you going all the way out here for? If you wanted a trip to Soleanna, I'm afraid you're a little late!" Aeolus called with a friendly voice. He wouldn't find out anything if he yelled and they ran away while pulling out Extreme Gears. Sure, he could easily catch up and over take them but Extreme Gears are always much more manoeuvrable than he will ever be at high speeds. |

One of the birds--a red hawk with rows of gold-tipped feathers, stepped forward. In his right hand he held an odd object, a sparkling gem with a black core, radiating almost visible darkness. Within moments, Aeolus felt as if a hand were choking him, his vision blinking out as it constricted around his entire head. It seemed to form to his face, a dark liquid that let no light of any sort through. And it radiated energy. Not heat, but energy, making the man's face tingle uncontrollably. It seemed to stop the flow of fresh air, his stale breaths pulsing from his longs to his mouth and back, nowhere to go but back and forth. |

Aeolus was shocked, to say the least. Running one second, suffocating the next. The name "Mephiles" echoed in his mind as the liquid formed, memories of the Dark half of his god flooded his mind. On instinct, several senbon flew through the air towards the red hawk as he calmed down. 'I've been trained in accuracy, ability to stay calm in serious situations and other skills. Along with my perfect memory and those skills I know exactly were you are and where to aim. A little darkness from a stone can't kill me that easily,' he thought as his hands slipped into his Gauntlet Blades, waiting to be released from the darkness. |

Though the senbon managed to free him of the dark liquid, they did not even near their target, the sandy wind picking up and throwing them, useless, to the ground. The hawks did not communicate--not visibly, at least--but in one swift motion two of the birds were behind him. The red hawk held the gem to the sky, its radiating blackness solidifying into tendrils of shadow that crept over the area, darkening the horizon's view. As the artificial dusk drew, the two birds behind him--one green, ornamented with blue in the same way as the gem wielder, and the other a slate gray--cast out their own stones. They faded into view as all-encompassing darkness overtook Aeolus, trapping him in a solid sphere of black. No sound came in or out, and the ground became soft, vibrating beneath his feet, moving him to and fro. |

Aeolus looked around in the darkness. 'At least it's better than suffocating,' Aeolus thought positively. 'Looks like a typical blinding tactic. Someone blinds you and him and his buddies attack you. However, it doesn't work if I attack first,' Aeolus thought grinning. He then suddenly raced forward in the direction the red hawk was. Swinging his Gauntlet Blades madly in front of him like a homicidal maniac and nearly at the same speed as he was running, even armour won't help if you're in his path. "Hey little birdie, fall to my mighty metal claws!" He said, cackling manically. Either he's insane or just really close to it at the moment. Maybe it's got something to do with the darkness? |

As he moves, so does the darkness, a never-ending void. Behind him, the face of that barn owl, that supposed figurehead of the group, faded into view, cast as if on a hemisphere that surrounding Aeolus. Its dark eyes pierced the shadows, hollow orbs in a glowing face. "You are a fool to attack the Order," he said, his voice abundant in the generic belligerence of a well-learned class. "What is your name?" He spoke matter-of-factly, even while questioning the human who stood--was he standing in this sea of never-ending darkness?--in front of him. |

Seeing the figurehead, he slowed down and stopped attacking wildly. He looked at the owl with a look of "you-have-no-idea-who-you're-messing-with"."Well, YOU were the ones who attacked me first, specifically the red hawk. I first attacked in self-defense," Aeolus said. "My name is Aeolus Anemoi, former Elite Guard of Elise, the Princess of Soleanna before it was destroyed. I am one of the few human beings able to come close to Sonic the Hedgehog's infamous speed without biogeneric altering or machine influence and educated in a small dictionary's worth of skills. Who are you and what is your "Order"?" Aeolus said, a tint of pride as he announced his title. |

The owl laughed, his beak clicking together rapidly as he churred. "A little full of yourself? Your name means 'ruler of the winds,' and you must truly believe you are. We can fix that," he said, his brow furrowing. Something happened outside the blackness, and pain began to creep up Aeolus's legs and pulse from within his head. Dark tendrils of burning struck at him, forcing the man to his knees, but in one split second the shadows retreated, the pain stopped, and he was suddenly back to where he was standing. Something had stopped the hawks, those odd gems of darkness clutched in their hands. The gray avian had been felled, twitching on the ground, blood running across that minute slope of the crater, staining the burnt earth red. Near him, crouched slightly with two swords clutched in her hands, was a cheetah, her gaunt face peering at the vile birds. Her tail twitched back and forth, and her slender figure betrayed her taut muscles, spotted fur bristling. Her mouth was slightly agape, fangs protruding from her maw. "Fowl!" she taunted, her grimace not leaving her face. The thick, sandy breeze ruffled the tan shirt she wore, her abs stained with blood. With a final gasp, the hawk at her feet left the world of the living. "You threaten a member of the royal court of Soleanna! Your treachery will be well met!" She advanced towards the green hawk, but the red hawk countered first, sweeping into her. Or, at least, trying to; his beak plowed into the hark ground, the claws of her feet piercing its skin and forcing him into submission. Her movements weren't even detectable.
