Espio wasn't incapable, it was just a pain to constantly shift the color of his skin. On land it was simple, the environment blended together in key shades that maintained and drifted from one to the other. To stay cloaked in water he had to account for every drop, every creature, every current. It was far more work but at the moment it was something he needed to do. Shadow had been waking when he had stood over him and was undoubtedly giving chase. Espio took comfort in knowing that he had probably not been identified. The current took a noticeable shift in the upward direction and the chameleon went along with it. Climbing out of the water onto a metallic structure that seemed to span out for miles. Dancing in and out of the thrashing waves. This was Hydropolis. A mechanized world that was partially submerged yet fully destructive. One wrong step here could lead to both drowning or crushed in machinery. "Where to start..." Espio figured it wouldn't hurt to just start moving, so he bolted along the pathway. |

After diving into the water, Shadow used his rocket shoes to propel him forward, shooting through the water and arriving in Hydropolis within minutes. Following the same currents as Espio had done, Shadow soon reached a structure nearby, over looking some of the semi-submerged city. "This should be fun..." Shadow said to himself as he shot forward, skating along a cushion of air that was provided by his shoes. He reached a small pool of water, only about 100 metres wide and unknown depth. Shadow skated over the top, skimming the surface and kicking up water as he reached the other side. "This is gonna take too long... Unless..." Shadow said to himself, looking up to see a tall structure nearby. He walked towards it, observing it to see if there was a way to climb it. |

Espio skidded to a stop. An action that looked more like sliding since the water prevented him from stopping completely for quite some time. He had no plan. All he was doing was running. Hydropolis was huge...huge and wet. If he wanted to find that shard he was going to need to get a better viewpoint then the ground level. Looking around he spotted a spire that seemed tall enough to see a large portion of the Hydro City. Approaching it he saw that there was no real way to scale it. Or at least, not by normal means, but being a chameleon...a hand placed itself on the wall, then a foot, and before he knew it he was simply climbing up the wall. Sticky bad fingers were helpful in situations like this. Little time passed before he was standing atop the spire and looking out over the world. "Where could that thing have gone?" |

Shadow walked to the structure, looking up at it as he smiled with delight. "Too easy..." Shadow said to himself as he kicked his rocket shoes into gear, making it so they would suck in air instead of push it put. He placed his right foot onto the structure, sticking to it, as though he would walk on walls. Well... He could now. It was only a matter of moments as Shadow ran up the wall, reaching the summit to see Espio standing there in front of him. "You! You're the one who appeared after I lost the shard!" Shadow said to Espio, moving into a defensive stance. "I suppose you're looking for it too..." He asked him, his hands glowing slightly as he gathered some Chaos energy. |

((Not to call 'god mode' or anything, but that seems like a rather... unsupported... use of Shadow's skates, I would think.)) The center of the tower structure, a normal even plane, was suddenly dented, the tower shaking slightly, as two more hammering sounds rang out. A moment later, the 'dent' exploded upward, a metalic red form erupting from within the tower to float, fifteen feet up, looking down at Shadow and Espio with a his neon green eyes. "Organics." he spat as he floated in the air, more focused on Shadow. "An error in my scanners; it will not be ignored." Perhaps the robotic echidna had been scanning for energy signatures and had accidentally picked up on Shadow, rather than its desired target? Even though its floating above, it doesn't seem to have any particular desire to attack... Maybe it'll decide to retreat and search for its target and leave the two 'organics' to battle one another. |

Espio hand slowly began to slide behind him as he saw the energy gather in Shadow's hand. If a brawl was about to break out he would prove he was far from unprepared. "You suppose correctly. But I'll beat you to it undeniab...ly...?" Espio felt the ripple in the ground and stumbled over his words. Looking around confused he fell when the second and third wave hit. The explosion explained the tremors. Looking up he saw Knuckles, except, it wasn't really Knuckles. The mechanized version was reminiscent of his first encounter with his old crew and the echidna, save this one wasn't blue. As soon as it said 'organics' Espio decided it was time to go, and since it seemed to be upset by Shadows presence, he took it as an opportunity. "Looks like we got company hedgehog, hope you can outrun it." Espio turned and leapt off the tower toward a none platformed part of the swirling waters and as he fell from the sky began to vanish until what hit the water was nothigness. |

Shadow glared at Espio and noticing that his hand had moved behind him, gathered a large amount of Chaos Energy. Shadow's hands now crackled with power, electricity circling his hands. "I seriously doubt that..." Shadow said as he too noticed the rumbling underneath him. The ground smashed apart and Shadow saw what looked like Knuckles for a moment. Only Knuckles couldn't hover... and wasn't made of metal. "Oh great..." Shadow said, looking at the robot as it looked at Shadow, focusing on him and saying something about an error. That's when Espio decided to be a coward and jumped away, leaving Shadow to deal with the robot. "Freakin' asshole..." Shadow said as he turned back from looking at Espio's cowardly escape, looking back to the robot with a grin. "The only error here is you!" Shadow roared at the robot, his hands crackling more as he raised them both, 3 crackling orbs appearing around each hand. "CHAOS SPEAR!" Shadow roared, throwing his hands forward and sent the Chaos Spear's flying towards the metal Knuckles. |

The robot cut its jets, letting its weight pull it down under the chaos spear. "A costly mistake." He says as he jets toward the Black Arms Hybrid, swinging one fist toward the 'Ultimate Life form' in a haymaker. |

Shadow simply smiled as the robot ducked his attack, saying it was a costly mistake for Shadow to attack. "As is yours..." Shadow said, as he saw an opening in the Robot's form, ducking the punch with incredible speed. He crouched down and with a quick burst of speed, threw two punches to the side of the robot, hoping that it would impact and stun it enough for Shadow to make a getaway. Espio would not get to that shard before he did. |

Espio felt the current snatch him as he hit the water and knew that if the shard was here it had been moved by the same suction that was now pulling him. He turned himself to get a little less resistance and carved through the waves until the water began to spiral around a solitary station. He crawled from the waves and let himself be seen again. The island of metal he was standing on was home to a solitary metallic building. However, every few moments that Espio looked at it, it seemed to shift. The door moving from here to there, windows growing or vanishing, its general makeup undoubtedly changing on the inside as well and somehow Espio knew that in the grinding gears that moved it the Master Shard was waiting. What else might be waiting, like another metal, was a mystery he didn't much care to solve but if he wanted that shard he would have to. He dived through an open window as it slid past him and into the moving framework of the building. Inside he found that it wasn't a room, but a tower. The tower rose on the inside but not the outside. It was undoubtedly a trick of the island. He looked around and moved just in time to miss a wall that had decided to place itself in his previous location. A series of rails darted for him and only his quick acrobatics kept him from being a shishkabob. Looking up he saw a feint and yet undeniably bright glow in the far reaching skylight of the tower and assumed that was his goal. With a target in sight he climbed. |
