Shadow's eyes widened as Knuckles began gagging. He knew what was coming. So he dropped him off his back, instantly moving about a couple of metres away from Knuckles as he hurled on the ground, none of his innards making it on Shadow. "You are extremely lucky none of that crap got on me... Or else your body would be here, and your head on the other side of the Island!" Shadow said to Knuckles, looking at the vomit on the floor. "Disgusting..." He simply said, walking back in the direction that Knuckles had pointed in. "Coming Echidna? Or should I just take that shard of yours." Shadow said, knowing that the comment would irk Knuckles and hopefully make him follow. |

"Why I oughtta..." Knuckles growled as he pulled himself to his feet. He staggers ungainly for a couple steps, then shakes his head violently. Patting the sides of his head with both hands, he regains his composure and sets off back the way they came. It wasn't too long before they came to a clearing, and Knuckles stopped. "Wait," he said, looking up at a particularly gigantic tree. "It should've landed somewhere around here... Ah, ha!" Knuckles pointed up at a not quite as tall, but pretty tall nonetheless, tree. A shard of the Master Emerald rested in the fork of a high-up bough. "No problem!" the red echidna declared. He immediately set out and began scaling the tree. He was about halfway to the shard when he heard the telltales "ooks" and "eeks" of those who are simian in nature. All at once, they descended from above and burst out from the trees around him, all converging on the tree he was climbing. The tree was soon covered in monkeys. "MONKEYS! Go on! Get out of here! Scat!" Knuckles started swatting at them with one hand in an attempt to shoo them out of his way. He couldn't very well use both, as his namesake knuckle-spikes were the only things keeping him on the tree. The monkeys did not take too kindly to this, however. Screeching and hooting, they soon swarmed all over the echidna. "Hey! Get off! No! Let go of me!" he shouted, swatting ineffectually as they enveloped him. "Gah! Not the monkeys! NOT THE MONKEYS!" |

Shadow simply shook his his head as he listened to Knuckles' rambling, finally catching up to Shadow after a minute of regaining himself. Then, soon after, Shadow observed the tree that Knuckles had said that contained the shard, seeing it immediately in the top. That's when Knuckles foolishly decided to climb. he was already halfway up and Shadow wasn't waiting down on the ground. He jumped up onto the tree, bouncing off onto a branch which he grabbed on to and spun around to launch himself higher, using his rocket shoes to boost him up. He shot up out of the canopy, landing on a tree top nearby, seeing Knuckles two tree down. "Wait you idiot! There could be..." Shadow began, as he saw the Monkeys appearing out of nowhere. "Oh this is should be entertaining..." Shadow said, smiling as the foolish echidna tried to shoo away the monkeys, causing them to attack him. "BAHAHAHAHAHA!" Shadow laughed as he grabbed his head, unable to contain his laughter. "Oh this is too good..." He said to himself, watching Knuckles scream as the monkeys attacked him. "Better help him I suppose..." Shadow said to himself as he raised a hand, his hand glowing with a yellow glow, small electric sparks crackling around his hand. "ECHIDNA! STAY VERY, VERY STILL!" Shadow yelled out to Knuckles as he put more power into his hand, pulling back his arm looking as through he were about to throw something. "CHAOS SPEAR!" Shadow bellowed out, bringing his arm around and throwing 2 Chaos Spears towards the tree, one hitting each side of the tree Knuckles was on, missing him by mere inches. The sound was enough to frighten the monkeys, sending them scurrying back into the canopy. "You're welcome." Shadow said, looking Knuckles and then to the shard. Soon... Shadow thought to himself, looking back to Knuckles. "Well go on! Get it already!" Shadow said to him. |

Knuckles turned and looked at Shadow blankly, his fur all mussed up and a banana stuck in his mouth. His eyes focusing again, he looked at the shard and then spat out the banana. Quickly, he scurried up the tree and onto the branch. Just inches from grabbing the shard, however, a monkey swung in on a vine and snatched it away before disappearing into the trees. "Oh, come on!" Knuckles yelled as monkeys began swinging past him on vines. He punched one of them out, grabbing the vine and swinging after the thief. "Come back here, you monkey bastard!" |

Shadow's eyes widened as the monkey stole the shard, looking at it as swung away, Knuckles afterwards grabbing a vine and swinging after it. "Oh to hell with this..." Shadow said, jumping off the tree top, landing on another nearby. The canopy was thick. Thick enough for Shadow to run on. He could run on water, so why not this? Shadow shot forward in a burst of speed, his rocket shoes singing the treetops underneath, but not enough to start a fire. He caught up to the monkey, skating underneath it. He shot his hand up towards the monkey, shooting out a small Chaos spear, cutting the vine it was swinging on. He jumped up, grabbing the monkey as it fell and took the shard out of it's hands. "Bad Monkey..." Shadow said, throwing the monkey at the tree tops, the monkey disappearing into the canopy as Shadow landed on a tree top, looking back to Knuckles with a smile, his eyes showing a hint of darkness. "Thank you for showing me where this shard was... I'll be sure to return it once I find a Chaos Emerald." Shadow said, jumping up about a couple of feet and then disappeared into the canopy. No doubt Knuckles would try and defend his precious shard, as Shadow landed on the ground, looking up to see if Knuckles would follow. |

[[[C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!]]] With the Master Emerald piece in hand, something odd happened: the Chaos energy that flowed through Shadow's veins stopped working. He crumpled to the ground, his rocket shoes giving out and gravity taking its course. His black quills paled slightly before the emerald shard flew out of his hand, skipping down a slope and over the side of a cliff, plumetting into a whirlpool formed by nearly a dozen waterfalls. The telltale signs of civilization--bricks, tiles, all artificially colored--brought the shard deep down beneath, into the aquatic ruins of Hydropolis. |

"Well...that's not exactly what I thought was going to happen..." The voice was disembodied and not meant to be heard but certainly not restrained to silence. The soft sound of rocks being shifted under weight approached the disturbed form of Shadow as he lay on the ground. It seemed the wind had grown curious and wanted to inspect the consequences of precious actions, none of which the wind had been aware of. Looking down at the pale form of Shadow the wind slowly started to turn a soft shade of purple. A horn grew out of its forehead and a tail from its backside as it knelt down beside the hedgehog. Espio took only a moment to inspect before standing up again and looking up into the sky. Shadow had come from above, and knowing him, he was probably being followed as well. Plus with the Master Emerald in pieces, Knuckles was most certain to be on the hunt for his shards. Which meant if Espio was to have any chance of claiming one for his own, he'd have to move quick. A glance over showed him the way the shard had fallen after being released by Shadow and the swirl of waters marked a place Espio had never thought to go. "...being wind is so much easier than being water..." Espio sighed to himself and leapt into the air, as he did so his body vanished and was marked only by the light splash as it made contact with the liquid and he dove beneath the swirls towards Hydropolis. |

It happened so fast. Shadow had the shard in his hands, it's power evident. And then he felt so empty. He could feel his power being drained away as he dropped to the floor, his powers gone temporarily as he blacked out. When he came to, he see a purple figure in front of him disappear into thin air, jumping into the waterfalls nearby. Shadow's eyes narrowed in the direction of the waterfalls, his power suddenly returning to him. He jumped up off the ground, getting on his feet as he looked around, seeing if Knuckles was still around. "Crap..." Shadow said to himself, looking up at the canopy. No Knuckles. He then looked at the waterfalls nearby, knowing that it led to Hydropolis. "You're going to regret the day you stole from Shadow the Hedgehog..." Shadow said to himself, walking towards the cliff, however stopping as he heard footsteps nearby. It had to be him. |

"You just had to get greedy, didn't ya?" Knuckles said as he stepped into view with an wicked grin on his face. "The Master Emerald doesn't work quite the way you thought, huh?" He walked over to the cliff and looked over the edge. Then he turned to Shadow. "Well, you might as well go first. If I have to carry you again, you're liable to sting me." |

Shadow simply glared at Knuckles, and was really pissed off at the fact Knuckles knew that would happen. Shadow simply wanted to get off this god-forsaken island. "You're an asshole..." Shadow said to Knuckles as he looked over the cliff, smiling as Knuckles said Shadow should go first. "Hmm... I think it would be wiser if," Shadow began, instantly disappearing and reappearing behind Knuckles, his speed making him almost invisible, "It were my turn to be an asshole." Shadow finished, pushing Knuckles over the cliff face so he could fall into the whirlpool. Shadow smiled as he then dived in afterwards, disappearing into the whirlpool as he swam towards Hydropolis. |
