Months... That could be the amount of time Shadow had spent on Angel Island, crashing into it after his battle with the Biolizard all that time ago. He found it interesting that he could have survived that fall, even though he was the Ultimate Lifeform. He'd survived a 200 mile per hour fall from over 60,000 feet and didn't even get a scratch. He however thought that he would lay low during the aftermath of the incident, the possibility of him being a hunted hedgehog one he couldn't deal with at the moment. That was about to change as Shadow walked through the forest area of the Island, making his way towards the edge of the island. He'd figured he'd skate across the water, since the Island was now in the water, making his way to the nearest city within an hour, and moving on from there. He wasn't in a rush to get there, otherwise he could've been on the water by now. Whilst walking, his ears perked up as he heard some branches rustling behind him. He turned around in a quick burst of speed, his hand raised and glowing a soft yellow as he looked into the bushes. "If you value your life, you'll show yourself immediately!" Shadow said to the bushes, his tone dark and commanding. |

"Pretty big talk for a guy who's supposed to be dead," Knuckles said as he stepped out of the bushes. He spared him a self-amused smirk as he marched by him. "You probably have quite the story to tell, but I don't have time to stop and chat. The Master Emerald broke, again, and I'm in a hurry to collect the shards before Eggman does. So you can either follow and tell it to me while walk or we can skip the chit-chat and help me find them." |

Shadow saw that it was Knuckles who was in the bushes. The red echidna who was the Guardian of the Master Emerald. He simply listened to Knuckles' poor attempt at humour, dropping his hand, and the energy disappitating into thin air. "Knuckles..." Shadow simply said as Knuckles walked up to Shadow, explaining that his beloved Emerald had broken. "You call yourself a Guardian and you let that thing break twice?" Shadow asked Knuckles as he then listened to his request to help him. Shadow was weak without a form of Chaos Energy, not being able to use Chaos Control. With one of those shards, he could have the power to at least make one jump to the mainland. "Very well..." Shadow replied to Knuckles as he followed him, walking next to him as he looked at the echidna's eyes. "And there's not much to know. I crash landed here and have been laying low... I'm suprised the 'Guardian' wasn't able to locate me..." Shadow said to Knuckles. |

"It's like a recurring nightmare," Knuckles replied in response to Shadow's admonishment. "It felt bad enough the first time that now I'm more ticked off at myself than anything else. Fool me once, as they say." He met Shadow's sideways glance. "I did find traces of you now and then, but I figured if you wanted to be seen you'd reveal yourself on your own. I trust you enough not to steal the Master Emerald, so I decided to leave it at that." The forest soon gave way to a huge gorge. It was too wide for a normal person to jump across on their own, and its length stretched into the distance. "I saw one of the shards fly off this way," Knuckles said, pointing his spiked mitt across the gorge. "It must have landed just beyond this gorge. Think you can get across on your own, or do you need a lift?" |

In a way Shadow was annoyed when he heard that Knuckles had in fact seen him a couple of times whilst he was on the island. He found it even more shocking that Knuckles trusted him enough to not want to steal the Master Emerald. "Really... You shouldn't listen to your emotional feelings all the time Echidna... That's how you get betrayed... Ambushed... Hurt." He said to Knuckles, looking away from him as the memory of Maria once again popped into his head. If only I were stronger then... He thought to himself as they reached the gorge, the gap wider than anything he'd seen before. He looked down to the spikes that seemed to stretch out across it, making it impossible for most to be able to make it across. That's when he heard Knuckles' suggestion that Shadow may need a lift across. Shadow simply smiled at the comment. "The shard is that way you say... Judging by the width of the gorge, I wouldn't be able to jump across, even with my rocket shoes boosting me... So I'll take you up on that..." He said, looking at Knuckles and waiting for his reply. |

"Oh? Then allow me to rephrase that," Knuckles said in response to yet another one of Shadow's criticisms. "I trusted you not to be stupid enough to haul off a stone the size of your body while I'm on watch." He glanced away with his arms crossed as Shadow weighed his options. "Yeah, great, now climb on my back." Knuckles stooped forward a little to receive Shadow's weight. ((Assuming he gets on...)) He grunted and swayed slightly as Shadow climbed on. The red echidna stepped off the edge, dropping slightly before flattening out as best he could with a three-foot hedgehog on his back. Rather than falling straight down, he started gliding across the gorge. "By the way," Knuckles said, "If you make one more snide remark, you're walking the rest of the way." There was a shallow decline, and he wasn't close enough to grab the edge when he got to the other side. Fortunately, he was able to dig his fist-spikes into the side of the cliff and start climbing. Normally, he could climb pretty quickly, but he didn't usually have a passenger. "You're heavier than you look, you know that?" Soon enough, he managed to claw his way to the top and climb over the edge. Once Shadow climbed off, he took a moment to recover before walking off into the forest. "Alright, this way." |

Shadow couldn't help but smile as Knuckles made his response to Shadow's comment. "Who said anything about me hauling it out of here. Chaos Control, remember?" He said as he climbed onto Knuckles' back, Knuckles grunting to carry the hedgehog. Wasn't this echinda supposed to have a form of super strength? However when they gliding started to occur, Shadow couldn't help but feel a little lighter, like his problems were beginning to float away. So this is how it feels to fly... He thought to himself as Knuckles made his comment about Shadow's remarks. Shadow smiled at the comment. Shadow looked at Knuckles, when he made the comment about Shadow being heavier than he looked. "Oh that's funny, I thought you could lift up boulders and that Emerald of yours with ease. A little thing like me should be like picking up paper to you?" Shadow said as Knuckles climbed over the edge, Shadow climbing off immediately. As Knuckles pretty much commanded that they were going in a random direction, Shadow simply shook his head. "You're too slow..." Shadow said, looking at the Echidna as walked along side him and with a quick swift movement, grabbed Knuckles and threw him around, making so he could piggy back Shadow, although Shadow's spines would get in the way slightly. "And it's your turn to hang on now..." Shadow said as he kicked his rocket shoes into gear, his body lifting off the ground by half a foot high, and with a quick thrust, shot forward in a burst of speed. "Which way am I running?" Shadow yelled out to Knuckles. |

"Hmph. You're welcome," Knuckles grunted as Shadow criticized him further. "And it wasn't an issue of weight as much as it is balance. I could lift you over my head easily if you were lying down. I could bench pre-WAH!" Knuckles' eyes went wide as Shadow suddenly grabbed him and put him on his back. He clung to the black hedgehog tightly as the woods blew past them at frightening speeds. "Back that way! You passed it!" |

As soon as Knuckles had said that Shadow had passed it already, Shadow came to an immediate stop, G-Force not being applicable to him, as he was the one moving in super speed. Knuckles on the other hand would be feeling the vertigo of sudden stopping. Shadow simply looked back to Knuckles. "How far back?" Shadow asked Knuckles. |

Shadow may have come to a complete stop, but Knuckles' stomach didn't. It felt like his brain crashed into his skull. He swayed uncertainly in his roost as the world spun around him. "It*hrph!* It's jus*HRPH!* I think I..." The urge to vomit inhibited Knuckles' ability to speak. He tried to hold it in, but it just wasn't going to take. He made one last attempt to communicate this, but it came out in technicolor. To his credit, he tried to keep as much of it off Shadow as possible. After a couple gagging coughs and a few deep breaths, Knuckles was about ready to speak again. "Sorry. Anyway, I think it's a few hundred meters back. I think. We did stop, right? Gah, just try not to stop so suddenly this time, okay?" |
