Mecha Sonic boosted towards Westopolis. Having heard that the peacock he just met lived in this general area, he decided to check the area out. Not to look for the peacock, but just to get the layout. He hadn't been here in years. Then something on his HUD went off. CHAOS ENERGY DETECTED!!! Isolating. ... ... ... ... Isolated. Chaos Energy detected in Casino Vault. New objective. Obtain source of Chaos Energy by any means. Mecha Sonic stopped in his tracks as he was informed of the Chaos signature. He boosted off towards the casino it was in, ready to get it by any means. |

The area near the vaults appeared deserted. However, a keen eye could see the robot and human guards destroyed or unconscious in various vaults, rooms, or even behind the occasional couch. Someone had been through rather stealthily, and had cleared the room of obstacles. The main vault was ajar by mere inches. No light exited the small crack; it appeared to merely have been left open by some forgetful buffoon. Unseen, however, was the Chaos Energy that leaked out from the room, the insides filled with the White Emerald's power. |

Mecha tilted his head in confusion. How could all these guards be beaten? He was expecting a challenge but... he shook his head as he grabbed the big door and pulled it open, to get a full scan of the inside. He wasn't going to leave anything to chance, so he made a scan of the area he was in just to be sure. Chaos Drives would be a bonus, since he could make use of them in his energy core. |

The sensors revealed little; in fact, they revealed nothing except the blaring power of the Chaos Emerald, secured behind a conspicuous titanium door, with five key slots located around its circular face and a digital keypad and retinal scanner on either side. Even with the security, the minivault had been cracked; a blackened hole had been cut clean through the impossibly strong surface. The Emerald was partially visible through the dark ring, generating a boatload of Chaos Energy. |

Mecha Sonic was confused. Who would break into a vault, and not take the Chaos Emerald inside? He had to try to get inside, so he took out a torch from his inside arm, and began trying to open it larger. He was going to get that emerald, if it was the last thing he was going to do. |

The first alert that there was anything in the room with him was the sharp whistling sound that the being's tail made as it flew at him. It struck like lightning, but luckily was not well-aimed. It glanced off of Mecha's shoulder, but the force of it dented his new, high-strength armor. Following the slithering tail led to the ceiling, where a shifting array of colors, squatting on top of two adjacent florescents, stared down at the robot. A murmured curse later, the creature dropped to the ground, glistening claws appearing as its camouflage disappeared. At first glance, most would mistake him for a blue lizard, probably a chameleon, but at closer glance some of his features out of a place. His long tail, held aloft and poised to strike again, was tipped with a glistening scorpion tip, cast in an extremely strong and exotic alloy. He had two fingers and a thumb on each hand, and his claws were like bird's talons. Aside from that, the outer ring of his face was fringed with feathers, puffing in and out as he breathed. The teeth behind his grimace were not normal; rather, they were like two-pronged forks, their white surfaces locking together, hiding his four-spit tongue. When he blinked, his eyelids moved horizontally, sweeping over his eye toward his snout; his eyes were a solid black. "Metal hedgehog," it said menacingly, producing a cat-like hiss. |

Mecha was about to say, 'That's MECHA', but he said nothing. Instead he simply moved towards the Chaos Emerald. "Indeed I am. I'm only here for the White gem." He said, trying not to be hostile. |

With a hiss and a yowl, the creature jumped onto Mecha's back, biting him across the right collar. His teeth where incredibly sharp, or his jaws incredibly strong; either way, several of his dual-tipped molars punctured his armor. He uselessly shook at the robot's body, trying to rip a chunk out; the action was ingrained within his very essence. Once realizing the futility of his actions, he released his grip, or would have had metal not dug and clung to several of his teeth below the gums. With one final push he released himself, and, though not visible, new teeth slid into to take their place. His hiss was replaced with at tiger like growl as his scales flashed crimson several times. His tail was once again poised to strike, though behind his vicious, confident attitude grew a feeling of doubt and unsureness about this battle. |

Mecha was startled, and backed up. "I mean no harm. I'll leave once I get the gem." He said, still trying to be non-hostile.

Its black eyes stared at him, shaking with a mixture of fear and adrenaline. "Mine..." he began to say, his small voice ferocious in the empty vault. He wanted the Chaos Emerald. No. He needed it. His mind and stomach growled for it, and every cell in his body was drawn to it, that small gem sitting behind this Mecha hedgehog. How did he know it was a hedgehog? He wondered slightly how he could know, considering in his short memory he had never seen one before. He stared at Mecha, who was much taller than the lizard thing; the attacker was nearly a foot and a half shorter. Tears welled up in the scale-like skin around his eyes, and he finally let loose. He pounded his sharp tail against the ground, piercing the reinforced concrete like dough, the oddly-jointed bones in his tail recoiling. "Mine! Need!" he managed to shout; his vocabulary seemed to be highly abbreviated. On purpose? "My gem!" he said. No, not on purpose. Even the words he spoke he should not know; he had a mind akin to a three-year-old. Sobbing, he fell to the ground, groveling at Mecha's feet. His tears were thicker than they should have been, and had the slightest brown tint of iodine. "Neek.... need..." he gasped out before giving up and collapsing entirely, tears flowing and his voice shuddering. Whatever he was, his mind--or, at least, his behavior and speech--were that of a child. |
