The streamlined locomotive slowed to a stop, the makeshift platform opening to a sloped landscape of rivers, artificial stone structures, and a grand waterfall. In the distance, Tails' workshop blocked the horizon, a speck among the rest of the Mystic Ruins' many features. Echeon slid from his chair and lead Zeel and himself out onto the wooden train platform, the train leaving quickly behind them. No one else had gotten off. "So... the Mystic Ruins. Such a wonder! Built by ancient civilizations..." Echeon stopped as he felt a pain in his chest. Not his heart, nor his lungs--his gem! It ached for a few seconds before dulling to nothing, though it disturbed him. Never before had his gem "hurt", aside from the infectious scratching fits he sometimes drove into. "... Hrm. Anyway, built by ancient civilizations, grand and mysterious!" he finished, stepping off down the slope. Edited by Fission, Sep 14 2009, 12:34 AM.

Well this place certainly lacked the crowd of the city, which was rather comforting. There also seemed to be a bit of water, but Zeel quickly observed that, worst come to worst, she could probably manage to cause quite some destruction, what with all of the flammable plants and grass and the like. Zeel didn't know much about ancient civilizations, but that didn't stop her from enjoying the extremely fresh air, as well as the overall sounds and atmosphere she noticed were simply impossible to get out in the city. Zeel looked concerned when Echeon stopped, she couldn't really tell what was wrong with him or why he had stopped, but she could assume that something was wrong. People didn't normally stop talking in mid-sentence. Zeel kept quiet, but looked carefully at Echeon with something quite possibly similar to mild concern showing slightly through her constantly shocked eyes. He didn't keel over and die or anything though, and seemed to not be too bothered by the occurrence afterward, maybe it was nothing. “It is beautiful.” She agreed as she returned her gaze to the landscape, and it was. It was very pretty. She wondered what exactly had been built by ancient civilizations, and what was already present. The girl held her tongue however, as she didn't want to annoy her temporary traveling cohort. “Someone could probably hide here for an eternity relatively safe from human harm.” She said, taking care to remember the place should she ever be required to hide for an eternity. Suddenly Zeel realized that, unless Echoen decided to pay her fair again, that she was completely and utterly stuck here unless a city happened to be well hidden and close by. Had he been planning this? He must have! Zeel instantly became suspicious of the hedgehog, though she tried to pretend that she simply had an incredibly new found interest in the sky, and an annoying habit of glaring at anything flying overhead. |

Picking up the pace, Echeon moved toward the waterfall pool the wondrous river pouring down from the cliff above. Slowly, the wall eroded; the waterfall would be little more than steeps rapids in a few thousand years, most likely. Looking over the edge, he stared deep at his distorted reflection, the crystalline waters warping and blotting his image though he saw the bottom of the pool. He removed his bag, sitting down with his legs over the edge. "Such natural beauty... if someone were to decide to stay--hiding, if the case may be--for the remainder of their mortal lives, this would be the most pristine area I could imagine doing so in," he said. Echeon grabbed a small rock, his hand curling around its coard surface, then threw it lazily, tossing it into the depths. The height gave it a larger splash than usual, his legs dampened by the wet shrapnel. "It's cold, yet comforting," he said to himself, observing nature's odd contrasts to the social aspects of society. Edited by Fission, Sep 14 2009, 05:37 AM.

Zeel followed Echeon, but didn't get quite as close to the edge. Zeel tended to dislike water unless it was being currently used for hygienic or drinking purposes, during which it was considered a tolerable evil. So she was here, what now? Well, she didn't really like being this close to the waterfall, perhaps she should wander off? Would that be smart? Probably not, maybe she could just keep Echeon within eyesight? Maybe. “I'm going to go look around a bit more.” She informed the hedgehog. “I will try to stay in either eye or ear shot if you need me.” |

Nodding, Echeon said, "Yeah, that's a good... i-... -dea..." The audible rumbling of his gut and the burst of veiled pain gloriously announced his lack of food. His face twisted in discomfort as he stood, gripping at his stomach. "I... I haven't eaten in a day. I'm starving," the hedgehog moaned, grabbing his bag. Looking up, he caught sight of a bit of smoke trailing off into the wind a ways, following its unmistakable trail to a small shack across the way. The scent of barbecue lightly filled the air, as it had when they arrived, but now his entire being fixated on it, focused on it, craved it. Without warning, he dashed towards it, across the trail, up the hill, and to the front door of the shed. It stood at the top of a cliff, the smoke coming from a small clearing next to the drop-off, an orange fox with--two? Two tails?--and an odd, blue hedgehog sitting back, enjoying drinks as franks cooked on the grill. He meandered over to them, fixated on the 'dogs, before finally regaining his composure. "Excuse me, fellows,' he said. They both jumped a bit, but looked over at him and gave their attention. "I was wondering... if my compatriot and myself could partake in your feast. You see, we are poor and... well, without food!" His concentration broke as he finished, pleadingly grabbing at the sustenance just out of arm's reach. After a few seconds, the other hedgehog laughed. "Sure, catch!" he laughed, grabbing two hot-dogs and tossing them to Echeon. He caught them, but that other hedgehog's hands had been fast, too fast. Wait a second. Two-tailed fox? Blue hedgehog?! A strange, unending lust for chili-dogs?! It had to be. He's-- "Sonic the Hedgehog?!" he yelled, more loudly than he thought he would. With another chuckle, he nodded. "The one and only!" Tales had long been told of his bravery, his godlike abilities gained from the Chaos Emeralds. How he saved the entire world at supersonic speeds, undeterred by the slightest obstacle. Destroying vile machinations of Robotnik's twisted desires. No one, not even the collective forces of GUN, could stop Perfect Chaos as he destroyed parts of Westopolis, yet this hedgehog, clad in gold, took little time to tame the god of destruction. He stood, flabbergasted, the frankfurters burning his hand. He didn't notice. |

Zeel suddenly realized that she also hadn't eaten in far too long of a time, and was trying to think of something relatively safe to make food out of when suddenly Echeon dashed off, causing Zeel to recoil in surprise. It took her a little while before she managed to feel stable enough to run after him. She still arrived late to the party, however, and arrived to see Echeon standing and staring in quite a strange way as some smoking pieces of... probably some kind of meat, were being held in his hands. Zeel carefully looked from hedgehog, to hedgehog, to fox, trying to peace together what she had missed. Saying that Zeel had never heard of Sonic before would be a lie, but she had never seen him and, as mentioned earlier, until recently thought that all hedgehogs were small rodents that ran around on four legs inside cages. Zeel DID notice the fox's two tails, but she assumed they were just about as natural as Echeon and focused on other things rather quickly. “Um, is he a brother of yours?” Zeel asked Echeon carefully, would seeing a brother where you least expected it cause this reaction? Maybe. Heck, why not? |

Zeel's misplaced stab at the situation cleared the air of tension. Echeon, Sonic, and Tails all laughed, Echeon quickly scarfing down the hot dog as it left a red mark across his naked palm. "No no, you misunderstand! Everyone knows of Sonic the Hedgehog!" he exclaimed. He bowed deeply to the blue 'hog, his forehead gracing the dirt beneath them. "I am so pleased to have such a fateful meeting!" With a grin, Sonic took a bit out of a chili-dog, beans dropping down onto the ground below. "Come on, relax!" he said, pointing to a small stack of lawn chairs, three leaning against Tails' shack. Echeon nodded and grabbed one, unfolding it and sitting down, taking another dog as Tails offered. "Thank you so much! I haven't eaten in what feels like ages. Zeel, come join us!" |

Zeel smiled nervously at the laughter. Guess not. Though the name did ring a bell. “Sonic the hedgehog?” She asked slowly. He looked nothing like she had imagined him based from what was revealed to her in the lab. She felt stupid for not realizing the basics of Sonic's appearance after seeing Echeon. So if this was Sonic... She turned her gaze to Tails. There did seem to be a minor similarity to a canine and she remembered that a fox with two tails had been a topic once. “Are you Miles, then?” she asked the fox. Zeel felt weird, warning signs were going off everywhere. She had heard that Miles was quite smart and skilled with machines. Did that mean he was a scientist? Ugh. She couldn't leave though, she couldn't act strange or suspicious in any way. She would have to be extremely careful. If the lab she was from had sent a description of her, what would they have sent? Well, asides from appearance, complete paranoia would probably be rather high up on the list. This was going to be awful. Zeel took a deep breath, as if to prepare herself for a daunting task which, in a way, she was, before graciously accepting a dog friendlily offered to her before plopping carelessly onto the ground. “Thanks for the chair offer and for the food, Mr. Sonic.” She said in the most cheerful voice she could muster. “But if it's all the same to you, I've just recently come from a hard and uncomfortable city, and I'd much rather sit on the soft grass.” All kinds of things could live in the grass. Some painful and as far as Zeel cared deadly. Surely this wasn't the act of a paranoid experiment, right? She hoped so. Edited by Guesty, Sep 14 2009, 10:53 PM.

Tails nodded as he sipped from the small glass next to him. "That's me!" he said, "It's nice to meet you both!" His twin tails flicked constantly, kicking up dust from the ground. He lifted the sunglasses from his face, sitting up to appear more attentive. "So, what brings you two here?" he asked innocently. Echeon smiled. "I travel--or at least will--the world, seeking all the world has to offer. It's a simple mantra, really," he said. His small teeth tore through the hot dog in his hand, finishing it in several large bites. He wiped his face on the back of his hand, and his hand on the grass below. "I'm just surprised that we met you two, of all people!" He subconsciously rubbed the gem on his chest, its glow slightly more noticeable. Its strange reactions to the residing Chaos energy of this area were becoming more apparently, especially of two who had been in Super Form before. Tails noticed the jewel. "That's interesting. Piercing? Amulet?" he said, his highly inquisitive mind seeking explanation. "No, no, I was born with this. Oddest thing, too." "Hrm... I'll be right back!" he exclaimed, hopping off his chair and rushing inside the shack, the door swinging behind him as the white ends of his tails disappeared within. After some rumbling and crashing, he emerged with a small machine, sitting down once more, his fingers blurring with precision button-pressing. "What about you, Zeel?" Sonic asked. "How did you make your way here?" |

Zeel stopped eating to eye the machine with what she hoped looked like curiosity. It was a good thing that she had stopped eating, because otherwise she would have choked at the sound of Sonic's question. Crap, she needed a coverup back story. Ugh, maybe if she kept everything vague... “Oh, it's nothing very interesting.” She insisted as cheerfully as she could manage. “My mom died from cancer, and I don't even know who my dad is. I pretty much decided to move as far as possible as quickly as possible to avoid the memories associated with my families house. I bumped into Echeon here while trying to find my way about in some huge city or another. I basically followed him around until he figured me out, luckily he didn't attack me and instead we got to talking. Now” She moved her hands in a wide motion. “Here we are! Life's funny, isn't it?” Zeel felt she was doing a good job at being cheerful, but was annoyed that her eyes kept straying back to the fox's machine. |
