Noxedwin Tepes (Generic) - Rise Against - 'Prayer of the Refugee'
I felt that this song touched upon Nox quite accurately at his conception (age 15). Now he's 19, I still see no need for change. The song is normally calm, but are prone to sudden and violent throes of angry angst. The lyrics speak of people being forced out of "a place that we could call home, and a life no-one could touch". Nox started out as a nomad, someone who couldn't be pinned down to one place for fear that his haunting past will catch up to him and take him as it took his tribe. If he kept moving, he couldn't grow emotional investments. For a time, that almost worked. In the stronger parts of the song, the lyrics boast solitude. I also get the feeling that there are concepts to be read between the lines. Pain. Nox is alone, but he doesn't want to be. His solitude digests him from the inside out, and he's aware of every bit of raw desolation that fact brings. His life is such that loved ones can be (and have been) destroyed in the blink of an eye. Despite his unwillingness to allow that to happen again, he craves someone, anyone who understands his torment.
Lyrics
Warm yourself by the fire, son. And the morning will come soon. I'll tell you stories of a better time. Of a place that we once knew.
Before we packed our bags and left all this behind us in the dust. We had a place that we could call home, and a life no-one could touch.
Don't hold me up now! I can stand my own ground! I don't need your help now! You won't let me down, down, down.
Don't hold me up now! I can steal my own crown! I don't need your help now! You won't let me down, down, down!
Down!
We are the angry and the desperate; we're hungry and we're cold. We are the ones who kept quiet, and always did what we were told.
But we've been sweaty while you've slept so calm in the safety of your home. We've been pulling out the nails that hold up everything you've known!
Don't hold me up now! I can stand my own ground! I don't need your help now! You won't let me down, down, down.
Don't hold me up now! I can steal my own crown! I don't need your help now! You won't let me down, down, down!
So open your eyes, child! Let's be on our way! (Hey! Hey!) Broken windows and ashes are guarding our way. (Hey! Hey!)
Keep quiet no longer! We'll sing through the day! (Hey! Hey!) Of the lives that we lost... And the lives WE'VE RECLAIMED!! GO! ... Don't hold me up now! I can stand my own ground! I don't need your help now! You won't let me down, down, down.
Don't hold me up now! I can steal my own crown! I don't need your help now! You won't let me down, down, down!
Don't hold me up! (I don't need your help. I'll stand my ground.) Don't hold me up! (Don't need your help.) NO! NO! NO!
Don't hold me up! (I don't need your help. I'll stand my ground.) Don't hold me up! (I don't need your help) Don't hold me down, down, down, down!
Something I decided upon on short notice, this one also shares certain similarities. The song spends the first stanza sort of dragging it's knuckles. In his battle, this would be Nox goading his opponent. When that passes, the song roars into crescendo, and the battle begins (with "watch your back!" striking the first blow). Connotations such as "I wrote the book on pain, somehow I'm still here, to explain" are pretty obvious. Part way, the song quietens down and repeats the chorus. An injury, perhaps? "When you gonna wake up? When you gonna wake up? And FIGHT!" for one last rush.
Lyrics
Yeah, I get it: you're an outcast. Always under attack. Always coming in last. Bringin' up the past. No-one owes you anything. I think you need a shotgun-blast, a kick in the ass, so paranoid-- WATCH YOUR BACK!!
Oh, my! Here we go! Another loose cannon gone bipolar, slipped down, couldn't get much lower! Quicksand's got no sense of humour! I'm still laughin' like Hell!
You think that a-crying to me, lookin' so sorry that I'm gonna believe you've been infected by a social disease? Well then, TAKE YOUR MEDICINE!
I created the sound of madness, wrote the book on pain! Somehow, I'm still here TO EXPLAIN that the darkest hour never comes in the night. You can sleep with a gun, when you gonna wake up and fight? (For yourself!)
I'm so sick of this tombstone mentality! If there's an afterlife, then it'll set'cha free. Well, I'm not gonna part the seas, you're a self-fulfilling PROPHECY!
(For yourself!) [...] I created the sound of madness, wrote the book on pain... Somehow, I'm still here to explain... That the darkest hour never comes in the night. You can sleep with a gun, when you gonna wake up? When you gonna wake up? AND FIGHT!
I created the sound of madness, wrote the book on pain! Somehow, I'm still here TO EXPLAIN that the darkest hour never comes in the night. You can sleep with a gun, when you gonna wake up and fight (for yourself?) When you gonna wake up and fight (for yourself?) When you gonna wake up and fight (for yourself?) When you gonna wake up and fight? (For yourself!)
Olga Vitch (Generic) - Pat Benatar - 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot'
Olga is, for lack of an imaginative noun, a very catty woman. While she can come off as airheaded and non-chalant, she is really very acid and will not hesitate to strike where it hurts the most, in battle or conversation. While not really having demonstrated her capacity to do so yet, her mere words can reduce many to tears; something she relishes. She enjoys arguments, and is never one to shy away from a good bitch-fight.
Lyrics
Well, you're the real tough cookie with a long history for breaking little hearts like the one in me. That's okay, let's see how you do it! Put up your dukes, and let's get down to it!
Hit me with your best shot! Why don't you hit me with your best shot? Hit me with your best shot! Fire away!
You come on with the "come on!" You don't fight fair! But that's okay, see if I care! Knock me down, it's all in vain! I'll get back up on my feet again!
Hit me with your best shot! Why don't you hit me with your best shot? Hit me with your best shot! Fire away! ... Well, you're the real tough cookie with a long history for breaking little hearts like the one in me. Before I put another notch in my lipstick case, you'd better make sure you put me in my place!
Hit me with your best shot! Come on! Hit me with your best shot! Hit me with your best shot! Fire away!
Hit me with your best shot! Why don't you hit me with your best shot? Hit me with your best shot! Fire away!
Noxedwin Tepes (Super) - Manowar - 'The Dawn Of Battle'
What, you didn't see this coming? 'The Dawn of Battle' is about wrath. Divine wrath. One with the ability to control the elements, to attack with "the air, and the water. With the fire, and the land". Ok, while Super Nox can't strictly attack with air or water, he makes plenty do on the other two. Plus there's the whole "my sword will drink blood" thing. Were it an axe instead, the song would fit like a latex glove. After a while, the song calms down into a pleasant, almost martyric, stanza, where he may grow weary or tired. Or where he may still be injured enough to risk incapacitation. And then, it thrashes back in as his rage wells up again, for a repeat of the ealier lyrics, and another repeat, and another repeat. Basically, he's going to kill it 'till it's dead. No forces in the cosmos will stop him when he gets that angry.
Lyrics
Oh! Dreadful thunder! The storm's moving in! And Judgement Day is calling! My soul has been healed by the power of steel, and the sound of glory!
I will send in to the ground all that I found by the sign of the Hammer falling!
Yes, heathens will fall! I will strike down them all! Then you know my calling!
Bravery calls my name in the sound of the wind in the night! My sword will drink blood! And I will fight! Yes, I will fight!
In the dawn of battle! Dawn of battle!!
I will rise up from the chaos! I will rise up from the grave! A brother to the darkness. A Master to the Slaves.
I am the sole descendent of the fire and the rage! I was wrought upon the Earth, born to rule and battle wage!
By the total domination of the world in my command! By the air, and the water. By the fire, and the land! I give no explanation, I was branded by the will Bringer of Death and Destruction to all that I now kill!
Bravery calls my name in the sound of the wind in the night! My sword will drink blood! And I will fight! Yes, I will fight!
In the dawn of battle! Dawn of battle!! ... I long to be free. So I wait for a sign. I wait for a star to fall from the sky.
From the dust of sleep, a promise to keep. Then all who see shall believe!
Deliver into my hand the Sword of the Land! Let my journey begin, so all shall understand:
That if I fall I WILL LIVE AGAIN!
I will rise up from the chaos! I will rise up from the grave! A brother to the darkness. A Master to the Slaves.
I give no explanation, I was branded by the will To bring death and destruction to all that I WILL kill!
Bravery calls my name in the sound of the wind in the night! My sword will drink blood! And I will fight! Yes, I will fight!
In the dawn of battle! Bravery calls my name in the sound of the wind in the night! My sword will drink blood! And I will fight! Yes, I will fight!
In the dawn of battle! Bravery calls my name in the sound of the wind in the night! My sword will drink blood! And I will fight! Yes, I will fight!
In the dawn of battle! Bravery calls my name in the sound of the wind in the night! My sword will drink blood! And I will fight! Yes, I will fight!
Echeon The World Forgotten, The Words Forbidden By Sonata Arctica
Lyrics
If you were my child I'd carry you away I'd travel through time, before silence was born
No hope for the child, this world has gone bad. When when's today, the machines say, what is a man to do
No light, only suffocating dark deep burning pain I'm losing everything I am remember nothing of my past Now, it is all gone, and I fear the Game is Over.
save me, save me, save me, take me away, away from this time, back where lies my home
Where is my home... Where is my home... Where is my home...
my grass isn't green... my sky isn't blue... The river runs dry... my flower has died... This isn't my home
I follow the moon to find a path away from the scorching sun... I follow the stars to my abode, it's burning... I seize the moment to hear a story no ones telling anymore the worlds forgotten, the words forbidden.
Cry for help...
This is a bit of a nod to Echeon's adoption, unable to remember his birth parents or his birthplace. It also hints a bit at things to come.
Truffles Amola Soul of a Vagabond By Stratovarius
Lyrics
Pack on my back I wander Over mountains across the seas My yearning soul keeps roaming In the endless search for peace
Sky is my roof, my shelter Stars shine and light my way Earth is my bed, my altar On this road that leads to nowhere
(CHORUS) In silence I scream but no one listens to me Absolution, salvation, my sins won't let me be The first cry, the last breath We are born to die This madness neverending Don't know the reason why Soul of a vagabond Illusion, delusion, we are born to live Temptation, damnation, starvation, deformation
The road goes on forever It's an old and trustworthy friend I have tasted it's dust and treasures But my twisted mind won't mend
My burden is heavy to carry My destiny lies ahead My spirit is always leaving For this road that leads to nowhere
(CHORUS)
This represents Truff's home on the road after leaving his family (and later, friends) behind to travel the world. He knows his family won't accept him; he thinks his friends won't, either. He travels onward, through the hardships and loneliness of the open road, contemplating life and death and existence.
Ayreon Liquid Eternity By Ayreon (which I named him after)
Lyrics
Once a world, endless and free Horizons unbroken Now a world of bounded frontiers The elders have spoken (our home)
Once a world, eternal and blue Floating, escaping Now a world that's blinding my view Shadows shaping (alone)
[Chorus:] Liquid eternity courses through our veins Liquid eternity nourishes our brains Liquid eternity, a world that does not live Liquid eternity, a life that does not give
Once a world of fear and dismay Of fleeing and hiding Now a world that's peaceful and safe So caring and providing, our home...
[Chorus]
Would you prefer the pain and suffering we had? Would you prefer to be impaired or even dead? Would you prefer to live the life we've learned to dread? Would you prefer to live a mortal life instead?
I'm losing my reason to live The essence of life
But the system's got so much to give Or would you rather die?
I'm losing my pride and my joy My will to believe
Why would you come back and destroy all We have achieved?
[Chorus]
Would you prefer the pain and suffering we had? Would you prefer to be impaired or even dead? Would you prefer to live the life we've learned to dread? Would you prefer to live a mortal life instead?
[Chorus]
Would you prefer the pain and suffering we had? Would you prefer to be in peril, even dead? Would you prefer to live the life we've learned to dread? Would you prefer to live a mortal life instead?
This sound really connects with Ayreon (and not just because of the band name, either). The first verse talks about a world that was once free and now collapsed, much like Ayreon's beginnings. He though he does not contemplate the repercussions of his revenge, the people of the song do.

Character 2

Might as well hop on board.
Stock
I personally thought that Checker Knights fit him and his crazy antics. It is a fun song for a fun guy.
Rey
He may not be accepted yet, but I figured I might as well toss this on there too. Taken straight from another pimping character, I feel it suits him well.

Emerl Hazardous Highway By Yoko Shimomura
Why this, when supposedly Sonic Battle's theme would do just as well? For one, it has a distinctly 'sonic the hedgehog' feel and at the same time is almost completely different from everything else. It just... 'feels' right. Yes its Kingdom Hearts music, and I have no idea where it plays in said game, but... it feels right.

Hazardous Highway is one of the Gummi themes. It's between Hollow Bastion and Port Royal (or PR and one of the neighbouring worlds), if memory serves. It's the route marked 'Broken Highway'.
...It's also one of my favourite themes from the game, if not for the fact that the route in question is insanely fast.
Lucidi Malic The Serpentine Offering By Dimmu Borgir
(Note: The music video is cut a bit roughly at one point, leaving out an entire bridge. The actual song is actually 5:09.)
Lyrics
My descent is the story of everyman I am hatred, darkness and despair My descent is the story of everyman I am hatred, darkness and despair
Evoked and entertained through centuries Wrathful and sullen -- Dormant still
The ferocity pervades everywhere Waiting to be released at last Hear my offering Ye bastard sons and daughters Share my sacrifice Share my sacrifice.
My descent is the story of everyman I am hatred, darkness and despair My descent is the story of everyman I am hatred, darkness and despair
Reconcile not with the fear of the snake But embrace it as your own Inject its venom into your veins And replant the seed that gives growth Still shrouded in mystery Until you arise above perception A veil of ignorance is in motion Continuing throughout generations
(A veil of ignorance is in motion Continuing throughout multiple generations Let me be the one that deliver you from the deceit And back into perfect accordance with the laws of nature)
The snake is notoriously tempting But the snake is fair What is worse than not knowing? To live or disappear?
The ferocity pervades everywhere Waiting to be released at last Hear my offering Ye bastard sons and daughters Share my sacrifice Share my sacrifice
This song contains many of the Antichrist overtones that Malic represents. He rose promising change and prosperity for the ne'er-do-wells and the poor, who helped him rise up only to become a force that would wipe the Cyber race and itself, destroying their beautiful homeland. He is the coming of a prophecy told generations hence, as old as Cybera itself.
Chorus Tomahna, Edanna, Amateria, Voltaic, Narayan; J'Nanin, where the journey to learn the Art begins.
Boy Soprano (Saavedro as a boy) Narayan, my home; Narayan, whose lattice tree is life; I think of you with joy. Keep my family safe; Shelter the ones I love.
Chorus 2 (After brothers visit Narayan) Tomahna, Edana, Amateria, Voltaic, Narayan J'Nanin, use what you have seen to unlock all that my Ages have to offer.
Bridge (Saavedro swearing vengeance to his family) I will avenge your peril; Remember my heart!
Break (Saavedro to Atrus) Tomahna! Edanna! Amateria! Narayan! Releeshahn! Annihilation! I will avenge my Narayan!
Chorus 3 Tomahna, Edanna, Amateria, Voltaic, Narayan; J'Nanin, breeding ground for lost souls...
I chose this one for Maldrid because he is learning about cultures and events that happened quite some time before current events. It sounds like it's talking about the struggles that happened in the past. Even though the lyrics don't relate to the character the sound in my opinion does. =)
