Known in Sonic 3 (and Knuckles) as the Angel Island Zone, this is the area in which Sonic lost all his Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 3. It was once burnt down, but has regrown since then.

An ancient ruin, somewhere in the lower half of Angel Island, which is mostly submerged in water.

Brr! This area's freezing cold! There are still some pools, but they're frigid!

Your standard green, hilly area...except with occasional earthquakes that change the terrain!

This is all that remains of one of Eggman's great airships. This one in particular was carrying fuel cells to power the Death Egg when it was brought down by Sonic and Co. Many of the traps are still active, and it is possible that the airship could be reactivated, given proper repairs.

A great desert stretching across a region of Angel Island. Beware of quicksand and sudden drops, and be careful when exploring the many pyramids; it's rumored that they are haunted!

A deep underground lava pocket within Angel Island. Somewhere in here is the main entrance to the Hidden Palace and the Emerald Altar. Of course, getting there through the pools of molten lava and collapsing caves is easier said than done, and activity from Eggman's experiments has made the place even more dangerous!

Deep within Angel Island, this place holds the altar of the Master Emerald. This is the one place on Angel Island that Dr. Eggman's forces have never entered; save Eggman himself, so it retains a clean, mystic feeling...

High above the Hidden Palace is a great ruin, suspended in the sky through unknown forces. During the great battle against Dr. Eggman on Angel Island, this was the only structure tall enough to reach the rising Death Egg.
